The story of Apex Autoworks & Tyres began at Trivett Classic in 2003. Daniel Smith (Owner) began his apprenticeship with the Honda Department. By 2005 Daniel was named Honda Australia Apprentice of the Year and Trivett’s Apprentice of the Year. He was then named in the Honda Australia’s top 10 technicians twice. Honda Australia rewarded Daniel with two trips to Thailand to tour their manufacturing plant of new cars and parts.
In 2008 Daniel set out for the next challenge, opening Apex Autoworks & Tyres. He would quickly realise the importance of customer satisfaction as the global financial crisis hit. Relying on his honesty and strong work ethic he quickly established his business and built up a strong customer base. It was however a much bigger challenge than first anticipated. With no experience running a business and limited experience on brands other than Honda the first first few years were extremely challenging. Daniel’s will to succeed pushed him to work to long days and often Sundays.
5 years into the business when everything seemed to running smoothly the workshop was broken into and everything that Daniel had worked for was taken away in the blink of an eye. Despite wanting to walk away Daniel once again pushed himself to take the business to another level. Not longer after Apex Autoworks welcomed Jake Hopkins who had stared his apprenticeship with Trivett on the same day as Daniel.
Jake had worked with Audi for 10 years. He brought an equally as impressive resume being named in Audi Australia’s top 10 technicians. Jake added a new dimension to the business with years of Audi, Volkswagen and Skoda experience and an overall understanding of current European vehicles.
With Jake now on board the workshop reached its limit. With only 2 hoists it was time for a much needed overhaul. The workshop was pulled to pieces and redone. Now with 5 hoists including a wheel aligner the business could continue to grow and serve the expanding customer base. Apex Autoworks then employed Max as an apprentice (now qualified) and would continue to grow over the next few years to the point there are 6 full time staff. The next move is to open a 2nd site in Valley Heights, in the building previously used by Bill Luhrs Auto Electrical.
